On May 8, Colorado Community Health Network brought together clinical, operations, and policy leaders from Colorado CHCs to share multi-perspective considerations around opioid use, prevention, stigma and treatment in Colorado. ECHO Colorado’s Marketing and Outreach Manager, Halley Hadfield, attended to provide opportunity around the upcoming learning series for Prenatal Substance Exposure and to be an active participant in the conversation around the need for more resources state-wide as well as identifying gaps in knowledge and services around opioid use disorder.

Some memorable conference highlights and resources include:

  • Panel participants sharing personal stories to break the stigma in support of the Lift the Label Campaign
  • CHI’s report out on the Colorado Landscape of Medication Assisted Treatment
  • Lisa Raville’s inspiring and eye-opening presentation on the Harm Reduction Approach and Impact
  • Jennifer Miles, Frontline Public Affairs, and Representative Leslie Herod’s passionate Legislative and Policy Session that spoke to a new initiative in Denver, The Caring for Denver Foundation, which will distribute more than $35 million per year to fund mental health and addiction services for children and adults.

ECHO Colorado proudly joined the Colorado School-Based Health Centers 2019 Conference in Keystone May 2-3rd.  We were grateful for the invitation to collaborate in presenting and exhibiting at the conference in support of the theme, Coming Together For Kids. Over the two days, we enjoyed celebrating, and exploring, opportunities in which ECHO Colorado has, and can, continue to collaborate with School-Based Health Centers.

Executive Director, John  F.”Fred” Thomas, Ph.D., offered a presentation on telehealth strategies and considerations. Board Member, Jeff Bontrager MSPH (Director of Research on Coverage and Access, Colorado Health Institute) provided a crowd-pleaser lunch presentation integrating the future-thinking Jetson’s cartoons into reflections of how modern-day health care is catching up to the futuristic ways of our beloved cartoon. His presentation included highlighting where ECHO Colorado fits among the spectrum between e-consults, telehealth, and in-person visits.

While our Marketing and Outreach Manager, Halley Hadfield, engaged with participants to learn about their experiences participating in our 2018 series and sharing materials for the upcoming Pediatric Asthma Treatment and Management series to launch Fall of 2019.

A big thank you to the entire Colorado School-Based Health Centers Team for inviting and hosting us!

Kaylee joined ECHO Colorado in October 2018 as a part-time project associate—a job that will transition to full-time project coordinator following her graduation from Colorado School of Public Health in May 2019, when she will earn her master’s in public health with concentration in community and behavioral health. She holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Colorado Boulder with a double major in integrative physiology and ethnic studies. Kaylee is a Student Leader in Public Health awardee, a scholarship offered by the Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center (RMPHTC) to assist with public health field placement and faculty-student collaborative projects with the goal of enhancing the public health workforce in the Rocky Mountain region.

Kaylee was looking for a way to expand her skill set and ECHO Colorado represented the opportunity to work in many areas of public health. Virtual collaboration presented a new, interesting way to gain new experience. She enjoys interacting with people in a variety of areas who are affected by public health topics. Her career goals include creating collaborative solutions that move underserved communities towards greater health equity.

Born in New York City, Kaylee and her family moved to southwest Denver when she was in middle school. She spends most of her free time with her parents, who are from Mexico, which allows her to enjoy and expand her cultural roots.
